I a city on the southern coast of Sicily , at first called Lindos, and afterwards Gela, from the River Gela or Gelas , on which it stood , now Terranova (acc. to others Alicata ), Plin. 31, 7, 39, § 73; 31, 7, 41, § 86; Verg. A. 3, 702; Sil. 14, 218. — Gĕla , ae, m., the river Gela , now Fiume di Terranova , Ov. F. 4, 470; also Gelas , Plin. 3, 8, 14, § 89.—
