I a Roman proper name . Especially celebrated is Attus Navius, an augur under Tarquinius Priscus, who cut a stone in two with a razor , Liv. 1, 36; Cic. N. D. 2, 3, 9; id. Div. 1, 17, 31 sq.; Plin. 15, 18, 20, § 77.
II —Hence, Navĭus , a, um, adj., Navian : Navia ficus, a fig-tree in the Comitium at Rome, on the spot where Navius cut the stone in two with a razor. As long as it flourished Roman liberty was to endure , Plin. 15, 18, 20, § 77; Paul. ex Fest. p. 169 Müll.
