Scŏtīnus, i, m., = Σκοτεινός (the Obscure),

an epithet of Heraclitus : legati ad Hannibalem missi Heraclitus, cui Scotino cognomen erat, etc., Liv. 23, 39, 3 (v. Munro ad Lucr. 1, 639); cf.: Heraclitus cui cognomen fecit orationis obscuritas, Sen. Ep. 12, 7 (as Greek, Cic. Fin. 2, 5, 15).
