agnōmĭnātĭo (adn-), ōnis, f.,

the bringing together two words different in meaning , but similar in sound , paronomasia , a rhet. fig., = παρονομασία: veniit a te antequam Romam venit. Hunc ăvium dulcedo ducit ad āvium. Si lenones tamquam leones vitāsset. Videte judices, utrum homini navo an vano credere malitis, etc., Auct. ad Her. 4, 21; cf. Quint. 9, 3, 66.
