cerus

A New Latin Dictionary by Charlton T. Lewis Ph.D. and Charles Short, LL. D.

cerus, in carmine Saliari intellegitur creator, Fest. s. v. matrem matutam, p. 122 Müll.—Here perhaps belongs also another passage from the Carm. Saliorum:

duomis ceruses, Varr. L. L. 7, § 26 Müll.; another writing KERVS in KERI POCOLOM, an inscription on a clay vase; the word is a masc. form to the fem. Ceres, and denotes the creator; from cer = Sanscr. kri, to make; v. Ceres.
