ēlăcătēnes, um, m., = ἠλακατῆνες,

a large sea-fish , a tunny , so called from its resemblance in shape to a spindle, ἠλακάτη, Plin. 32, 11, 53, § 149 (dub.; Jan. and Sillig ictinus, iulis).—Also called ēlăcătae , Col. 8, 17, 12. Here belongs elacatena genus salsamenti, quod appellatur vulgo melandrea, Paul. ex Fest. p. 76, 15 Müll.
