to make cheerful , to cheer , gladden , exhilarate (rare but class.): omnes jucundum motum, quo sensus hilaretur, Graece ἡδονήν, Latine voluptatem vocant, Cic. Fin. 2, 3, 8: Periclis suavitate maxime hilaratae sunt Athenae, id. Brut. 11, 44; Ov.
