I to exceed or surpass in power , to be very powerful , to be very remarkable or distinguished (perh. not ante-Aug.): quibus additis praepollebat, he had the superiority , Tac. A. 2, 45; 51: Phoenices mari praepollebant, id. ib. 11, 14: puella praepollet pulcritudine, Ap. Met. 6, 22, 19.
