Augusta Veromanduorum

Dictionary of Greek and Roman Geography

AUGUSTA VEROMANDUORUM the chief town of the Veromandui, who are mentioned by Caesar ( B. G. 2.4, 16). The name of this place first occurs in Ptolemy; and its identity with St. Quentin, in the department of Aisne, is proved by the Roman roads from Soissons, Amiens, and Bavay, which intersected here.
