Bracara Augusta

BRA´CARA AUGUSTA(Βραίκαρ Αὐγουστα, Ptol. 2.6.39; Augusta Bracaria, Geog. Rav. 4.43; Braga, Ru.), a city in the NW. of Hispania Tarraconensis, the capital of the Callaïci Bracarii, who dwelt between the rivers Durius and Minus, and the seat of a conventus juridicus. It stood at the meeting of four roads, some distance from the sea, and not far from the left bank of the river Naebis ( Cavado). Among its ruins are the remains of an aqueduct and amphitheatre.
