MARCIA´NA SILVA a mountain forest in the south-west of Germany, probably the whole or a portion of what is now called the Black Forest(Ammian. 21.8; Tab. Peuting. ) The origin of the name is not known, Cluver regarding Marciana as a corruption of schwarz,and others connecting it with marshand march,which is still used in the Black Forestas a name for a moor.
