Codanus Sinus

Dictionary of Greek and Roman Geography

CODA´NUS SINUS the sea to the east of the Chersonesus Cimbrorum ( Jutland), which, as Pomp. Mela (3.4) states, is filled with islands, all of which belong to the modern kingdom of Denmark. It was therefore the southern part of the Baltic. According to Pliny (Plin. Nat. 4.27) it extended north as far as the prom. Cimbrorum.
