Caspii Montes

Dictionary of Greek and Roman Geography

CA´SPII MONTES(Κάσπια ὄρη), a western portion of the great chain of the Orontes and Coronus ( Demawend), which extended along the SE. shores of the Caspian Sea, on the borders of Media, Hyrcania, and Parthia, about 40 miles N. of the modern town of Teheran. They doubtless derived their name from one of the tribes who lived on the borders of that sea. [CASPII]
