ANCORA´RIUS MONS(Jebel Ouanseris), a mountain of Mauretania Caesariensis, S. of Julia Caesarea, belonging to the Lesser Atlas chain, and forming the S. limit of the valley of the Chinalaph ( Shellif). It was celebrated for the tree called citrus(a species of cedar or juniper), the wood of which was highly esteemed by the Romans for furniture. Pliny mentions several instances of the extravagant prices given for it. (Plin. Nat. 13.15. s. 29; Ammian. 25.5.)
