Ocra Mons

Dictionary of Greek and Roman Geography

OCRA MONS(ἡ Ὄκρα), is the name given by Strabo to the lowest part of the Julian or Carnic Alps, over which was the pass leading from Aquileia to Aemona ( Laybach), and from thence into Pannonia and the countries on the Danube. (Strab. 4. p. 207, 7. p. 314.) The mountain meant is evidently that between Adelsbergand Laybach, which must in all ages have been the principal line of communication from the Danube and the valley of the Savewith Italy.
