Dictionary of Greek and Roman Geography

AURA´SIUS MONS(τὸ Αὐράσιον ὄρος: Jebel Auress), a mountain of N. Africa, in the S. of Numidia, below the city of Lambesa. It forms the SE. extremity of the so-called Middle Atlas, which it connects with the main chain of the Great Atlas. [ATLAS] It divides the waters which flow into the basin of the lake Tritonis ( Melrir) from those which flow NE. into the basin of the Bagradas. (Procop. B. V. 2.13, 19, Aedif. 6.7.) It appears to be the Audus Mons of Ptolemy (τὸ Αὖδον ὄρος, 4.3.16).
